For the Gents: How to ask your groomsmen

For the Gents: How to ask your groomsmen

A groom and his mates, we think, are just as important as a bride and her girlfriends. After conducting our own research on high-quality inspiration for the groom and his crew (and finding none!), the concept for our styled shoot was born. So boys, here is a totally achievable idea for how to ask your groomsmen to be part of your big day. (Plus a great excuse to drink whisky & smoke cigars!). Let us know if you’d like some pointers to create a similar treat for your prospective groomsmen.

We wanted to highlight some of the ways that a groom could spoil his groomsmen, in a relaxed setting but with a touch of styled sophistication. We stumbled across this hidden carpark in the backstreets of West End, Brisbane, and just knew that we had to take advantage of the incredible street art!

Against the striking backdrop, we created an opulent outdoor lounge area, complete with lush florals and an immaculately presented cigar bar, with a generous picnic hamper provided by Village Food & Events. The Gathering Events caravan bar was the perfect accompaniment, serving Australian craft beers and top-shelf whiskies to our lucky gents.

The real life groom-to-be and his mates enjoyed a guided whisky tasting, learning about the delicacies of the different single malt varieties. The whisky bar featured gorgeous vintage crystal decanters, props and florals, accented with stunning calligraphy labels, signage and stationery from You’re My Type.

The gents were also treated to a customised box of manly treats from Wood & Beau – presenting the perfect opportunity for the groom to ask them to be a part of his wedding day!

It was such a pleasure to be able to help these lovely guys celebrate their friendship and spend some quality time together in the lead-up to the groom’s big day.

We were super excited to have this shoot published by White Magazine – you can check out their blog feature here.

Real Wedding: Surprise Backyard Wedding in Brisbane

A Brisbane Backyard Surprise Wedding

This was one of those weddings where we actually had to pinch ourselves to make sure we weren’t dreaming! From the moment we met Danielle & Alex, we knew bringing their dream of a surprise wedding to life was going to be an incredible experience. Under the guise of their engagement party, we planned a beautiful soirée under the stars involving some of the best vendors around!

We worked closely alongside Danielle & Alex, enjoying more than one tasty meal and bottle of wine at their place during the planning process. It was truly a pleasure to provide our planning, coordination, styling and hire services for this adorable couple as they gave their guests the best surprise ever!

Before we delve into the magic of this amazing day, a word from the beautiful bride…

“Emma from Coco and Confetti is a very special lady. She went above and beyond to make sure my wedding day was everything I dreamed it to be. She is so passionate, professional and dedicated to her work, with attention to detail that I (also a perfectionist designer) could completely trust 100%. I would not hesitate in the slightest to recommend her to anyone. Apart from her amazing talent and abilities, she is simply a gorgeous, lovely and warm person to share this most stressful time with. We had difficult home-based surprise wedding – complete with a “scene change” and Emma made this not only possible but spectacularly so. We will always be grateful to her and her fabulous team.”

While the bride and groom enjoyed their medicine online wedding day, we completely transformed their backyard and underneath the house. We created a magical dining and lounge area on their garage (which was completely unrecognisable by the time we finished!). The stunning Edison bulb lighting from AVIdeas and flowers by Julia Rose were the perfect accompaniment to our retro styling pieces.

One of the coolest elements of this wedding was the theme – Spanish fiesta meets retro revelries! Our creative muscles flexed just at the mention of this epic wedding concept! We love how it all came together.. using lots of colour, retro furniture, pops of gold and tons of hand-designed touches by the bride & groom. Even the invitations were beyond amazing (thanks to the crazy talent of Lindqvist Ink)!

The craziest part of the day for us was the ‘reveal’… when the groom announced (and the bride peeked out to watch it all go down), that it was not, in fact, an engagement party, but was actually a wedding! The guests’ surprise and glee set the tone for the rest of the evening, which was pure love, happiness and celebration.

Our team, which had been floating through the party as “friends” of the couple, mobilised into action and created a pop-up ceremony space, complete with retro stools, signing table, petal toss station and incredible macrame arbour!

The ceremony was a love and fun-filled affair, especially with celebrant Alana Salm at the helm! After saying their “I do’s”, the couple took some time to celebrate, have a sparkler war, throw some confetti & cuddle their cats!

We honestly cannot thank Danielle & Alex more for having us as part of their special day. We will forever hold this wedding in our memories as one of the best events of our careers!

To the bride & groom, from the bottom of our hearts, we wish you all the best for your married life. We are so glad that your wedding brought us into your lives and we look forward to enjoying many more roast dinners and bottles of red with you in the future 😉

Working alongside some of Brisbane’s best wedding vendors was a huge pleasure for us. We couldn’t have made the day anywhere near as special without their talents!

Cactus Garden Wedding Inspiration

Cactus Garden Wedding Inspiration

With soft green tones and a rustic feel, we loved creating this styled shoot with Lyndal Carmichael Photography. The textural backdrop of the cactus garden was the perfect setting for an intimate celebration of love.

The scene was set beautifully by the wedding stationery from September Creative. The gorgeous cactus garden was the perfect backdrop for the bridal & wedding portraits.

We created a gorgeous greenery-based centrepiece, complemented by succulent-filled terrariums. Crystals and gemstones added glittering geometric features to the bridal table. Candlesticks & crystal glassware completed the scene,, providing a romantic ambience to the setting.

One of the most enjoyable parts of a wedding is the time for the bride & groom to have some fun! We created a garden party area, complete with a bar cart and the Insta Kombi mobile photobooth.

Bohemian Bridesmaid Picnic in Byron Bay

Bohemian Bridesmaid Picnic in Byron Bay

When I reflect on the times that I have been happiest in my life, I never remember the clothes I was wearing or the money in my purse. I recall the company of my friends and a smorgasbord of sensory memories – the sounds of laughter from the people I love, the feel of a light wind cooling my skin under the warm sun, Medicine, the colour and vibrancy of my surrounds and a dozen smells and tastes that can immediately transport me back to the exact time and place as if I’d never left. Most of all, I remember the swelling feeling of happiness in my heart as I sit back and take it all in.

They say nothing lasts forever; dreams change, trends come and go, but friendships never go out of style

~ Carrie Bradshaw

Under the right circumstances, you can be removed from the stress of day-to-day life, in just a moment, to an oasis of friendship and fun – where you can create new memories to treasure.

We took inspiration from this in organising a memorable escape in the serene setting of Byron View Farm – a spectacular location, far away from the hustle & bustle of the world and the perfect setting to host a wonderful picnic for a bride and her bridesmaids-to-be.

Getting married is an amazing experience. Tying the knot with the person you hold most dear is truly a magical thing. But let’s not kid ourselves, getting to spend a ton of life-changing moments with your best friends –  celebrating every milestone and appreciating their support, love & laughter – is pretty darn incredible too.

Hence why we LOVED being part of this adorable shoot with Just For Love Photography!! Nestled in the shade of a bamboo grove on a hinterland estate in Byron Bay, a bride-to-be invites her girlfriends to join her party as bridesmaids, with a colourful and playful picnic escape.

The bride welcomes the girls at the country gate and leads them to a low, lavishly decorated table where they lounge on the lawn together to share a feast amidst the soft bohemian furnishings. They chat and laugh and celebrate moments past as they had done for years on end and hoped to carry on for years to come.

Styling this picnic was a dream-come-true for us. There’s a palpable sense of fun in the air and the styling feeds into this energy with hyper-colour florals, which play off the bright rich hues of the gemstone feature pieces and are complemented by textured accents of ivory and brass.

And what is a picnic without food?! Drawing inspiration from Spell Designs, Kylie created this incredible platter for the girls to feast upon. The cheese board from Kolo The Wanderlust Effect provided the perfect vessel for all these delicious treats!

As the afternoon wanders on towards sundown, the bride invites her besties to accompany her to the escarpment, where she pops the question “Will you be my bridesmaid?” on the silk-ribbon tails of personalised, hand-crafted kites (made by us!). Grinning from ear to ear, they take to the fields together to let their joy fly.

All too often we see inspiration shoots that are so complex or removed from reality that we can’t relate, let alone hope to reproduce for ourselves. The theme for this shoot, however, is so simple yet powerful and heartfelt that anyone can get involved. Starting with a group of your closest friends and allies and the desire to show them how special they are to you, it takes just a few personalised touches to create an unforgettable day.

Let us know what you cherish and what you wish to share with your besties and we can take care of the details!

Bridesmaid Flower Crown Workshop in Maleny

Bridesmaid Flower Crown Workshop in Maleny

We believe that great friendships are not only worth treasuring but are worth celebrating. There is so much more to a wedding than the day itself, including the huge way that your nearest & dearest contribute to your celebration and are part of the journey in the lead up to your big day.

It is for this reason that we found ourselves, on a misty Saturday in February, at one of the most stunning spots in the hills of Montville on the Sunshine Coast – to create an inspiration shoot that celebrates friendships and shows how you can treasure your besties as part of your wedding celebrations! We adored bringing this shoot together, providing a lavish afternoon of pampering and fun for an amazing group of friends, medicineforall, so an excited bride-to-be could ask “will you be my bridesmaid?“.

Montville Lake Terrace was the perfect setting to celebrate friendship and spoil a few lucky ladies!

The scene was brilliantly set thanks to a gorgeous suite of hand-written paper goods from The Ink Refinery. The invitations signed off with “I love spoiling my tribe”, which was the perfect sentiment for the day ahead!

The girls arrived and were surprised by a flower crown workshop with an overflowing “bloom bar” (they all adored the incredible marble sign from The Ink Refinery) and a lovely wrapped bunch of flowers to play with. Under the friendly & fun direction of Flour & Bloom, the girls were quickly enraptured in creating their flower crowns. Silk ribbons from Feathers & Stone were the perfect finishing touch to each crown.

Creating something from scratch has such a special feeling. Seeing their flowers crowns come to life through their own design was one of the girls’ favourite elements of flower crown workshop. The other was being spoiled by an opulent bar cart from Kolo The Wanderlust Effect, full of special touches and delicious drinks!

We’ve always found that it’s the personal touches that can elevate an event beyond the ordinary to the truly memorable. This spectacular afternoon was full of lavish details, spoiling the bridesmaids-to-be with silk robes, little macaron boxes, and hand-lettered placecards. Not to mention the dessert table, overflowing with incredible treats from One Last Bite & cakes from Hansel & Gretel Speciality Cakes! Styling the dessert table was a dream come true – it is not often that you get to work with such gorgeous desserts, amazing silks and beautiful flowers in such a stunning location!! Bringing it all together to create this opulent display is exactly why we love what we do.

Brimming with pride at their own creations, the girls were full of excitement and energy. Their happiness bubbled through the rest of the afternoon – there were plenty of smiles and giggles as they enjoyed drinks and a styled picnic together!

The décor was inspired by the amazing hillside house – Montville Lake Terrace. The beautiful property exuded a ‘modern vintage’ feel, which was perfectly complemented by a gorgeous porch swing. Using pastels, some luxury and a few vintage touches, we created a comfy picnic retreat for the girls to enjoy.

We love creating our signature styled picnics – they are such a cosy, relaxed & intimate way to spend time with loved ones. The pastel-themed picnic we created for these special ladies was the perfect backdrop for these girls to eat, drink, & celebrate their friendship.

Any event can be a celebration with the right people, but the addition of a few carefully chosen elements like the dessert bar and the flower crown session made the girls feel like rock stars. A little luxury never goes astray!

If all of the special touches weren’t enough, the girls certainly knew how to make the most of their afternoon! I mean, why wouldn’t you get a bit ‘gangster’ while wearing a flower crown?! This is what besties are for 🙂
