If there’s one night of the year that justifies putting a bit of effort into making a delicious cocktail (or three), it’s New Year’s Eve. As event planners, we relish in any excuse to make an evening a bit fancy and NYE is no exception!
We love stopping for a moment as we bring in the new year, as it gives us an excuse to reflect on the year that was and what we want out of the year to come. Sipping on a special cocktail as we do this is pretty much the best thing ever!
In honour of 2015 ticking over into 2016, we have put a list together of our absolute favourite cocktail recipes that are both easy to make and totally delicious. Enjoy!
1. An oldie but a goldie – the Champagne Cocktail
One of the first things we think of when we hear “New Year’s Eve” is champagne. Why not jazz up your usual sparkling toast to a champagne cocktail?! We have personally taste tested a few, and we love these options. Check out Jamie Oliver’s Wicked Champagne Cocktail, Eclectic Recipes Sparkling Pomegranate Cocktail with hibiscus syrup, Inspired by Charm’s Sparling Pomegranate Cocktail, and Food 52’s The French 75 – all worth a taste test!!
2. Our go-to Sangria with a difference
When we make sangria, we can never go past this apple, rose & elderflower sangria using rosé from Posh Little Designs. It is always a winner and hence is one of our all time favourite recipes – every single time we serve it to friends or family they comment on how easy-drinking and delicious it is (and there is never enough!!). We have actually taken to doubling the recipe for groups over 4 people, otherwise it seems to run out much too early! Enjoy!

3. Beautiful raspberry fizz cocktails
We adore cocktails that not only taste delicious but also look super pretty! A favourite combination of ours is raspberry and rose.. the flavours are scrumptious and it is easy to make a cocktail that looks delectable! We love these recipes from What Katie Ate, Lark & Linen, Camille Styles, and Celebrations At Home.

The thing about New Year’s Eve in Australia is that it is hot, which means that celebrating can be thirsty work! Luckily these watermelon cocktails from PopSugar, Creative Culinary, and If Found, Make are both delicious and refreshing.

8. Fig cocktails with a twist
For something a bit fancier this New Year’s Eve, why not try a fig cocktail? Combined with some special ingredients like maple syrup, thyme or champagne, fig cocktails are a class above!

9. Sweet & Sour – the Candied Grapefruit Cocktail
This wonderful cocktail requires a bit of preparation, but it is totally worth it! Combining the sweetness of sugar and agave juice with the tartness of gin and grapefruit, it is a wonderful combination that is more than worthy of a New Year’s Eve bash. You can find the full recipe at Pretty Plain Janes.

10. Pretty in Pink
Perfect for a girly New Year’s Eve party, these gorgeous pink cocktails are sure to please! The two cocktails shown here are the aptly called “Charleston Pink Lady” cocktail from Return to Sunday Supper and the extra special “French Kiss 75” cocktail from Front & Main. So very pretty!
11. Cocktails with a herbal twist
There’s something seriously delicious about the use of herbs in cocktails, especially rosemary and thyme. Paired beautifully with sweet fruits, these cocktails will be a creative addition to your NYE celebrations.
Thyme is both an aromatic and pretty addition to a cocktail and we love its use in the Blushing Kiss Martini by Bakers Royale and the Plum & Thyme Prosecco Smash from My Diary of Us. Not to mention the beautiful copper mugs used for the Grapefruit Rosemary Mule from Domesticate Me are a stunning addition to any party!

12. Sangrias to get excited about
When celebrating, you basically can’t go wrong with a good sangria. However, instead of going for the usual white or red sangria, why not try a sangria with a twist this New Year’s Eve? We’ve put a couple of our favourites together for you to try.. we would love to hear your thoughts!
One of our absolute favs is the Strawberry & Peach Rosé Sangria from What’s Gaby Cooking, closely followed by the Guava Sangria from Style Me Pretty. But of course they are all good, so definitely don’t shy away from trying the Cranberry and Rosemary White Christmas Sangria from Jerry James Stone, the Mango Strawberry Sangria from Host The Toast, the Carolina Peach Sangria from My Recipes, or the Champagne Sangria from Style Me Pretty.
